How to Remove Venetian Blinds?

Wondering how to get those Venetian blinds down to clean them? Read on for tips.

It takes a fair amount of effort to put up a set of blinds. It takes a certain skill level too, and not all of us have it. The best way to have your blinds erected is to have a professional put them up on your behalf. That’s why it’s so important that you choose a blinds purveyor you can trust, that comes with a skilled installation team. We at Fraser James Blinds like to think we fit that stereotype neatly. We are here to help.

But this article isn’t about installations, it’s about removing Venetian blinds. Let’s examine why you would want to do it and how it is done.

Why Remove your Venetian Blinds?

Lots of people get sick of looking at the same window dressings all day and opt to make a change. Blinds aren’t forever, even if they are durable enough to last the test of time. If you have had enough and want to change your décor, a new set of blinds is the ideal way to do so. It may be that a new set means a new style.

The second most common reason people remove their Venetian blinds is simply to clean them. Any window dressing, be it a Roman blind, a vision blind or a wooden blind, gathers dust. Over time, the grime that builds up on your blinds can affect the air quality in your home. Studies show that blinds harbour less dirt than curtains, but we still need to be hygienic.

How to Remove Your Venetian Blinds?

Your Venetian blinds clip into the top of your window frame by way of two brackets. One of these brackets is on either side of the window. You may have a square bracket on either side or you may have a round, rolling blind. Whichever type of Venetian blinds you have, rolling them fully up is the starting point to removing them.

Once they are fully rolled up, go to your first bracket. If you have a square bracket, use a screwdriver to wedge the top clip open. Pushing this gently upwards should allow you to undo it as if it were a catch. On a rolling bracket, the device is similar but supports the central pivot in the rolling system. Repeat this on either side and the blind itself should pop free.

From here, you can clean the blinds are return them to the starting position or continue removing them completely. To remove them, take your screwdriver and unscrew the open brackets from the wall. That’s all there is to it. You can see this guide for pictures.
